fREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I prepare for my first session?

Once your first appointment is confirmed, you’ll receive an intake and consent form via email, along with a brief assessment. This helps us get to know you and ensures we’re prepared to make the most of our time together.

There’s no right or wrong way to prepare; simply come as you are.

It’s completely normal to feel a range of emotions before your first session, especially if you’re beginning to explore sensitive or long-held experiences.

Know that you’ll be met with warmth, respect, and care. We’re here to support you, wherever you're starting from; and to walk beside you as you move toward greater peace, insight, and wellbeing.

And remember...
Breathe, deeply.
You're not alone.

Do I need a referral for my first session?

If you wish to claim a Medicare rebate for your sessions, you’ll need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP or treating medical specialist. This referral must be in place prior to your appointment in order to access the rebate scheme.

If your sessions relate to a motor vehicle accident or workplace injury, please speak with your GP, lawyer, or claims manager to organise pre-approval through the relevant insurer or funding body.

If you prefer to see your psychologist privately, you are welcome to do so- no referral is required.

How do I claim the Medicare rebate?

If you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) and a referral from your GP, you are eligible to claim a Medicare rebate of $96.65 per session.
This rebate is processed immediately after your appointment and deposited directly into your Medicare-linked bank account.

Please note:
We do not offer bulk-billed sessions under Medicare.
However, a sliding scale fee structure is available to support accessibility; please enquire if you’d like to discuss this option.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that life happens, and sometimes plans need to change.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. This allows us to offer the time to someone on the waiting list and helps us manage availability for all clients. To make changes to your booking, please call.

Because appointments are in high demand, I kindly ask all clients to take mindful responsibility for their scheduled sessions.

Late Cancellations:
If less than 24 hours’ notice is given, or if you do not attend your appointment, the full session fee may apply.

Thank you for your understanding and for honouring the time we set aside for your care.

How Many Sessions can I access?

Medicare Rebates – Better Access Initiative

Under the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative, eligible clients can receive:

  • Up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year (1 January to 31 December)
  • Up to 10 group therapy sessions (where available and clinically appropriate)

Referral Process

  • Your GP or psychiatrist can initially refer you for up to 6 sessions.
  • After these appointments, a review appointment with your referring doctor is required. If appropriate, and upon my recommendation, they may issue an additional referral for 4 more sessions.
  • Referrals cannot be written for the full 10 sessions upfront.

Private Health Insurance

If you have ancillary (extras) cover with a private health insurer, you may be eligible to claim a rebate for psychological services.
A paid invoice will be issued to you after each session, which you can submit directly to your insurer.

Please note: You cannot claim both Medicare and private health for the same session.

Medicare Safety Net Information

Medicare Safety Net Information

You are responsible for any fees that exceed the Medicare rebate amount. These out-of-pocket costs, however, contribute toward your Medicare Safety Net threshold.

Once you or your family reach the applicable Safety Net limit within a calendar year, Medicare may reimburse you at a higher rate:

  • Under the Original Medicare Safety Net, benefits increase to 100% of the schedule fee.
  • Under the Extended Medicare Safety Net, Medicare covers 80% of your out-of-pocket costs for out-of-hospital services (including psychology sessions).

The Medicare Safety Net is designed to support those who require frequent medical or psychological care, helping reduce your total annual expenses.

For more information, visit the official Medicare Safety Net page.

Do you bulk bill?

Bulk billing is not available, due to the ongoing costs involved in maintaining and delivering a high-quality, private psychological practice.

However, I do offer a sliding scale fee structure to support accessibility. If financial hardship is a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out, we’re happy to discuss options that may work for you.

Some clients find that once they reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold, their out-of-pocket costs reduce significantly. In many cases, Medicare covers up to 80% of the session fee, meaning your gap fee could reduce to as little as 10% of the full rate.

If you or your family have ongoing medical or psychological care needs, it’s worth checking if you’re registered for the Medicare Safety Net.

Registration is free and may significantly reduce your total healthcare costs.
